There is an interesting article in todays FT here, showing that the number of British workers in jobs has fallen by 270,000 whilst the same number of jobs have been created.
This has to be of great concern to politicians, as bluntly put, people vote, and for that, it is people who have the vote, on the money they have in their pocket. Immigrants don't have the vote and those that do are finding life a lot tougher.

The bulk of this is a direct cause of the E.U. the sooner we have a vote on this the better.
Glad to see you are back, Benedict. From your previous post I wondered if you had become a desperado from justice!
Anyone who tries to bury their hand in the sand about how serious an issue immigration is will live to regret it, politically speaking.
Roadrunner, actually I understand it is about half and half. I.E. half is from the EU the other half isn't.
Marquee Mark. Many thanks. Still a bit tied up. It is a civil rather than criminal matter I am dealing with.
Letters from a Tory. Yes, that was the point. It was the electoral effects I was most interested in.
The essential problem is that often the migrant is a better worker, more committed and knowing he can lose all.
As one of those immagrants, I can confirm the count is right. Ones life is "edger". Same as for ex=pats around the world.
If you carefully observe ever since, EU joining we have this immigration issue. Before that we had non EU immigrants for years but we didnt have much issues with immigration although that was not controlled. Non EU immigrants many belong to different races but if they are from the commonwealth they atleast adapt to our language and speak english like indians, pakistais etc . But if you see the situation now romanians, bulgarians, cyprans, maltese, Poles etc move in here freely and speak their language and dont even repect our english. And they couldnt be easily differentiated because as most of them belong to the same race. They are the real culprits who steal our jobs. Have you ever seen a EU immigrant doing self employment here?? But you will see commonwealth immigrants contributing more economy to country by self-employment , better knowledge of English etc. But if you see the rules of immigration has become tougher only for these non EU which includes commonwealth citizens. Whereas the EU immigrants have a free movemnt and suck the wealth out of the country.
