Susan Boyle sectioned?

That is what they said on Radio 4's Today program this morning.

Fortunately it is not quite true, Susan Boyle has voluntarily gone to the priory suffering from exhaustion albeit escorted by police.

She has had a very tough 7 weeks, catapulted from zero to superstar in the blink of an eye. Who would not be exhausted after that.

I wish her well for a speedy recovery. With a bit of luck the tabloid press will lay off her, though I doubt it.

The BBC has this.

Let's wish Susan a swift recovery. The public has a very poor idea of what mental or emotional illness actually is.

Susan Boyle is not a nutcase. She's a courageous lady who's undertaken a little more than she could handle. To fall into second place at the end is no mean feat. In some ways Susan has achieved some of what she wanted - to be as famous as Elaine Paige [is]. At this point she probably is. I'd like this to be for the right reasons and not because of some ill conceived notoriety which the media and its readers are sadly all too often very good at creating.

Whether or not the situation has been caused or catalysed by her slightly educationally challenged condition is immaterial.

Let's just hope that the media and the public don't turn on Susan.

She needs time to rest and recover from what has been an incredibly demanding schedule over the last seven or eight weeks.

Such pressure would take a similar toll on anyone who's not used to such pressure and demands. It frequently claims victims in people who ARE used to such pressure as well!

Get well soon, Susan. Do what's right for you and do it in in your own time.

In the words of Billy Joel, 'Vienna Waits For You.'

To be fair. no one to my knowledge at least been catapulted from hero to international megastar in the space of a week, then built up in the press only to be attacked in the last vital week. I suspect that would take its toll on anyone.

That said it is good that most people wich her well.
