The Strange Case of Madeleine McCann, Gerry and Kate suspects?

When this story originally broke i did not blog about it because I had not got much to say that was not being said elsewhere.

We now reach an odd stage in proceedings though. It appears that forensics has found traces of blood in a hire car the McCann's hired some 25 days after Madeleine went missing. I have also heard that this is supposed to be Madeleine's blood.

Here I have a mental problem. Let us assume, as it seems the police are, that Madeleine did indeed die by accident (or perhaps design) at one of her parents hands on the night of May the 3rd.

We are then asked to believe that the one responsible got the collusion of the other to cover it up. Reading between the lines, this would mean finding somewhere to hide the body for 25 days, with the police buzzing around presumably looking for it, in which time it was bound to start smelling a bit unless refrigerated.

So there you are n Portugal, with a child in the fridge or freezer whilst all the police are looking for her, for 25 days? Then you moved the body?

The logistics of both hiding and moving a body are difficult. Also it has to be noted that people who have just been responsible for someones death and then hide the body do not behave normally. Are the Portuguese police saying they just did not notice this?

If true, why did they hand around for so long and organise such a media storm to keep the Madeleine story in the papers. It just does not make sense. (Yes I know you can argue it was an attempt to cover things up).

It is just bizzare.

I wonder if they have looked at the complete hire history of the car from the day Madeleine went missing until they found the blood? That may turn up something somewhat more credible.

I also find it hard to believe that two people would be as close as Gerry and Kate McCann appear to be if one of them had been responsible for the death. It would cause much arguments between them surely?

The BBC has this.

Unless of course a friend was involved somehow and had access to the hire car for disposal of a body and the McCanns are an innocent party

I totally agree with you this is a farce they are blaming Gerry and Kate for the disappearance of their daughter note i said disappearance and not death because i still believe that maddie is alive They are trying to blame these parents because they have no idea what is going on the don't have any clue and instead of asking for help from another qualified police force they are blaming the parents I am so angry at this whole suituation i don't know the McCanns but i really feel for them nobody can begin to understand what they are going through and the police force are doubling their hurt by blaming them as i said on gerry's blog POLICE ask for help nobody will criticise you's for asking and just get your finger out and find MADDIE

With all the media attention on the McCanns at the time of the incident and well beyond that, the mere suggestion that they would have hidden a body and somehow found a way to dispose of it is absolutely ludicrous! I agree also that the couple couldn't possibly be so intimately close if one of them had accidentally caused the death of their child, who was apparently conceived through in vitro fertilisation - all the more reason why she is so special to her parents.
Perhaps the police have neglected to question the other witnesses more thoroughly and are now grasping at straws.
It seems the investigation didn't get off to a very professional start, with forensic evidence only being collected several weeks after the incident and also after the villa had been let out to other people.

Don't you think it could be a case of the police getting rid of the enquiry. Surely if they charge them and then drop it as they don't have enough evidence, the the McCann's could go home and the Portugese police would hope the case just goes away, I am sure there must be questions being asked about how the enquiry ic costing the Portugese people. Also let's face it, a lot of families have probably cancelled holidays in this area, due to the concern as to what has happened to Madeleine.

I can't believe the parents have done it, even though I cannot comprehend leaving my children on their own. I am sure the children would have loved Tapas, it's just the sort of treat they would have enjoyed.

For any blood to be there the body would have to have been open and not wrapped in something (unlikely), any blood at 25 days would also be dry. The claims of fibres on clothes are easily explained (if they weren't there already they would have been transferred off toys/dolls etc.) The movements of the couple and associates in Portugal will have also been monitored too closely to have missed anything (suggesting that the police imagine a third party was involved, for which there appears to be no evidence).

I don't trust evidence such as dna and such as this anyway (i'd be hell on a jury) but, even with that, if there was anything it was almost definitely because of cross contamination.

As I wrote on pb, those who have the most to answer are the press. I would like to see the Mirror journalist who diverted the enquiry to Murat to be questioned and possibly charged if this was found to have been malicious or to have been to 'help the story along'. at crucial time they were responsible for allowing the search and investigation to be sidetracked. The Portuguese press also need closer examination, given the seeming collusion between them and elements of the police in disseminating information.

Nothing about this case surprises me anymore. The whole thing is just so unbelievable that I don't see how anyone can rule out the parents being involved, horrifying as it may seem.

a few details of the whole story sound a little strange. Two people claim to have checked the appartment during dinner before the official vanishing. Those were the father of the missing child and a friend of the family. The friend of the family confessed to the Portuguese police that in fact he didn't go in, he just listened at the door, heard no noise, and went back to the restaurant.
So the last people other than the parents who had contact whith Maddie were the child care people at the resort, and that was only in the morning.

now, if the rumors of blood traces found in the car rented 25 days after the "incident" are confirmed (there is no point at this time do dismiss that specially following the police's attention on the parents), then the state of affairs change. The blood traces don't have to be from a fresh wound where the blood actually spills. These could be very well be dried blood. how the blood got in the car could mean several things: 1- they moved he body; 2- they disposed of clothes that contained blood which left traces too small to be caught by the naked eye.
Given that the child was not seen by anyone else besides the parents since about lunch time, that leaves about 8 hours of time where nothing is known that can be proved.
There's nothing really substantial other then the blood traces. The fact that those were found in the car rented 25 days after the child went missing is enough to point to the parents.

Agree with so many comments. Why the police are so excited or so focused on Madeleines DNA being found in the hire car. Of course the family will have belongings of hers, probably her little sister is wearing 'hand me downs'....toys that have been played with etc. If the police can find DNA in a car 25 days after Madeleine went missing, it is completely possible that the DNA is even older. Specks of blood mean nothing as far as I am concerned. As a mother of children of a similar age, a cut knee can be wiped clean with the sleeve of a jumper, or what is ever closest to hand. The other day I cleaned the blood, from my childs cut knee, off the floor with the sole of my shoe.
I know people are quick to critise the sympathy and support the MacCanns have received because of their background. Personaly I feel these are strong reasons for them to 'not be guilty'. They do not appear to be from particularly privaledged backgrounds, but clearly intelligent people who have worked hard through their life. Becomming a 'doctor' does take a certain amount of hard work, intelligence and good judgement. If by some crazy chance there had been an accident with regard to Madeleine, I somehow imagine the MacCanns would have handled the situation quite differently to what is now being presented. I doubt they would have imagined that they could have concealed the body and then called upon everybody to search for their child. I imagine they would have called for an ambulance of some medical help! What 3/4 year old child needs sedatives to help them sleep anyway, especially after a physically exhausting day playing in the pool, by the beach and with friends?! I really truely wonder if these police have any experience with young children. The idea early on in the case that Madeleine wondered off on her own, always struck me as crazy. Again, I know the howling and screaming that happens when my child wakes in the night and how much worse it would be if I wasn't there. I think somebody would have heard her, plus could she really have opened the french door on her own?!
Of course it is harder to admit that there could be a unknown child predator out there still....There are other un-solved cases in the area (Spain). The peron or people do not have to be British either. Portugal and Spain do have peadophiles too. There is a difference culturally as to how we deal and talk about such things.

Two comments,
First one
is it usual to leave 3 small children alone in a flat in a foreign country, while you have having a dinner?.
Nobody in the restaurant saw the parents leaving the restaurant, so it is hard to believe that they were to check each 30 minutes how were the children, as they say.
And the second, the responsable of the portuguese resort offerted to the parents a babysister and they rejected it.

So ...

There are two (main) reasons to conclude the McCanns are guilty.

B) Blood. OK, so it's a farce from the police for you. Then can you bring up any other theory supporting the existence of Madeleine's blood on that car, which was rented ***AFTER*** she dissapeared? We can't know for sure how it happened, but either this evidence is false (wisely portuguese police sent the car to UK best labs) or they have a lot of explaining to do. Unless someone can come up with an answer, this clearly points them at some degree of involvement.

A) No remorse. The whole matter about leaving their children alone. I can't even conceive the possibility of leaving 3 children of that age alone, at night. I know some people does, but honestly, if this happened to you after comitting such an iresponsible act, wouldn't you express a small degree of humility and guilt? they're defiant, cold, not accepting the smallest critic, even with wrath and harsh reactions when someone suggest they did anything wrong. I would be dead with remorse in their place. They have no guts, no humanity, can't feel they're wrong. They can hide a body, I am sure.

Answering to Ann Hanratty: It is not by blaming the police that we will find any answers. We all cry for Maddie and we all want to know what really happened to her, but the police has to do it's work and it's doing it with the help of British Police. Let's not make of this a war between two countries. Portuguese and Britains are in this problem together and together should find the truth with independent police investigation. That's what's being done. Will there be answers? Who knows? History is full of unresolved crimes, because the criminals didn't leave sufficient evidence to catch them. Let's just hope this is not the case, weather the Mccanns are or are not involved in the dissapearing of little Maddie.
