Does anyone like the London Olympics logo?

Just thought I'd ask as it seems to have gone down like a bucket of cold sick.

People have sent the BBC these alternate logo's some of which look quite good.

There is even a petition against it, here.

So, anyone like it?

You're right: some excellent work there. "OpenSource Logos" for free.

flashgordonnz, Yes, the open source alternatives do look quite good don't they!

Most of them very art schoolish, although not as ghastly as the one that was paid for. I thought Alex Chapman's London street sign was absolutely brilliant and witty and said "London"! to anyone who has ever visited the city. Very, very clever in a very English way. They should grab it!

Wayne Gardner's use of the London Eye and his light hearted logo was my second favourite - both of them light years ahead of the clunking piece of coarse, ugly, unidentifiable nothingness of the logo that cost £400,000.

Verity, Fair comment, though it says something that when you compare things that are very "art schoolish" and knocked up in a flash against something "professionally" produced the former wins!

Benedict, I said most of them were very art schoolish (although, certainly, I think they all showed more potential talent than that clunkly tinkertoy), but I did single out Alex Chapman's work, which I think is very witty, and that of Wayne Gardner who produced a charming, welcoming logo. Both of these guys, I think, are outstanding and not art schoolish at all. (I believe they're both working artists.)

Verity, I think we agree, I just would not have come up with "art schoolish" :)

I did not realise that Alex Chapman or Wayne Gardne were working artists though.

I think Wayne Chapman came up with his logo in about an hour, then said, "Now I have to get back to work". I assumed he meant work he was being paid for. I can't remember where I got the idea that Alex Chapman is a working artist. He's certainly very witty.

I thought the others were rather amateurish, although not pretentious, like that piece of junk that cost £400,000.

It was my fav, too. Who cares if no one else gets it. But I'd wager anyone who has passed through London or has a soft spot for it will appreciate it.

AT least a great name has been chosen for the Pink Pretention: "Bonky"! LOL
