Andrei Lugovoi to face charges over Alexander Litvinenko's murder with polonium

I wrote a lot at the time of the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko with polonium. It seems now that the investigation is complete and the files have been reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions Sir Ken Macdonald has decided that Andrei Lugovoi, a former KGB member should be charged.

He is currently in Russia so the chances of him being extradited are slim in the extreme but never mind.

The BBC has this.

For more on the poisoning, polonium and how interesting it is see here.

I've been wondering about this since I first heard about it on the radio, I'm glad to hear the case has been closed.

Ruthie, that assumes that the Russians extradite him which they may not. It would be good if they did though.

Even if they don't extrdite (and lastest news says it's against their constitution) if he steps foot outside russia, can't he be nabbed by interpol on an international arrest warrant?
After NZ did a deal with the french over the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, they forgot to withdraw/cancel the warrants, and a few years later the Swiss (or Swedes?) napped a frenchman over the affair.

flashgordonnz I was aware that is was against their current constitution but you are right that if he puts his foot in the wrong country he is nicked!

Don't you guys ever debate anything in depth??
Like where the polonium came from, who supplied it, or why, or under whose orders???
These guys don't act without instructions, someone pulls the strings.
WTF is wrong with investigative journalism and detailed research in this septic Isle. Has poxy nulabour stolen the initiative, legislated away your thought processes, are all conservatives so whooooolly minded, or is this blog just another scam.
There does seem to be a lot of arse licking going on!

Erik, Forgive me, but if you had read the link at the end of the article marked "For more on the poisoning, polonium and how interesting it is see here" you would have seen I have covered the ground you mentioned.

I have said that it is like shooting someone with a hallmarked platinum bullet. I have pointed out both how expensive and how traceable it is.

Regrettably, as a blogger my budget (£0) dies not stretch to a globe trotting investigation.

How are other bloggers able to do it?
No globe trotting needed. Just google a few key words, eventually the picture forms.
Don't trust a lone report, seek confirmation.
Least of all trust the bbc.
You're either a good blogger, or a laugh. You choose.
